Hey Jeff, I am noticing that I am having trouble communicating effectively at my new job. I think it’s because I need to improve my English speaking skills.

Well, I think I need to improve my grammar and increase my vocabulary. I’ve noticed that I tend to stumble over my words and get tongue tied. I also I have trouble finding the right words to communicate and this causes my speech to sound choppy.

Well that may help some, but I think working on learning different phrases and finding opportunities to talk in English every day will be the best way to improve your fluency. The more you can immerse yourself in the language, the better.

How can I practice everyday if I don’t have anyone to practice with.

You might be able to find an English chat group or just talk to yourself in English. When you’re doing things around the house or in the office, state aloud what you are doing in English. It’s awkward but it works.

Whether (or not)
In today's dialogue, Jeff said to Kelly, " It's OK if you make errors every now and then. But the important thing is whether (or not) you can get your point across." Here "whether" has the same meaning as "if", and it is used to present two possibilities and/or to focus on an important decision that needs to be made. For example, "I'm not sure whether (or not) I should take this business English course."
