Paul Desmond是我很喜欢的一位西海岸酷派爵士乐代表，中音萨克斯乐手。Desmond以其温暖的音色以及轻快的演奏方式而为人称赞。50-60年代，Bebob盛行，越来越多的乐手追求速度和技巧，而Paul不炫技，安静地吹奏出他的旋律，给人恬静，自洽的感觉，自得其乐，回味无穷。他对自己音乐理念的阐述是这样的“As always in jazz, its essence is the tension between improvisation and order—between freedom and discipline. I think I had it in the back of my mind that I wanted it to sound like a dry martini."
