today we talk about people deal with negative emotions in American culture with shopping.
do you ever buy something when you're in bad mood ?
1. Doom spending 厄运支出
people are feeling upset about the selection, and they're going out and just spending money as a way to deal with something that feels really dark emotional.
doom , something bad, bad feeling.
n. 厄运,劫数;悲观,沮丧
credit card balance 信用卡余额
指持卡人在信用卡账户上的未偿还金额
eg, do you know anybody whom does doom spend ?
not really, no, most people in my role are more about experiences, obviously people shop and buy things, but they rather take that money and just do a weekend away, and maybe a term for that too.
2. retail therapy 零售疗法:纯粹为了快乐而购物,尤其是作为一种分散个人困难或失望的方式appealing your mind and heart with buying things.
eg, I'm up for a retail therapy now, the election is over, let's go to the mall.
3. overspend, spend too much.
eg, I overspend on Prime day last year, so I'm going to stay away from it this year.
4. impulse purchase/buy 冲动购买:指没有计划或思考的情况下突然购买的物品。
eg, i was in a bad mood, and i thought the jeans牛仔裤 were run sales so i make a impulse buy.
5. compulsive shopping/shopper 购物狂:一种无法控制地频繁购物的行为,通常是出于心理上的满足感而非实际需求。
eg, i can be a bit of compulsive shopper when I'm stressed.
6. how do you usually pay for things ?
is it by cash, credit card, debit card借记卡 or check支票?

oh i get it, I'm not usually a compulsive shopper but i can't help忍不住 情不自禁 myself these days.

One way to deal with negative emotions in American culture, Which is shopping.
1. doom(something bad is happening)
doom scrolling()
doom spending(spending money as a way to deal with something that feels dark emotionally)
2. retail therapy(healing your mind or heart by buying things)
Ex: I'm for a retail therapy. The election is over. Let's go them all.
3. overspend()
Ex: I over spent on Prime Day last year, so I'm gonna stay away from it this year.
4. impulse purchase/ impulse buy
Ex: I was in the bad mood,I saw these jrans in the sale, so I made it impulse buy.
5. compulsive shopping/ compulsive shopper(addiction)
Ex: I kinda be a compulsive shopper when I'm stressed.
6. indulgent(do whatever they want, usually for huge things)
Ex: I know it's indulgent, but I bought a car.
