Consumer culture thrives on the idea that happiness is just a purchase away. Advertising constantly bombards us with messages that the newest gadget or trendier clothes will fulfill us. This can lead to impulse buying, where we grab things we don't necessarily need. However, some people enjoy shopping as a form of stress relief, a kind of retail therapy. On the other hand, some individuals choose to be frugal, carefully budgeting and seeking bargains to avoid the pitfalls of excessive consumerism.
